Lip Enhancement

Lip enhancement/augmentation is a cosmetic procedure, which enhances the lips and makes it fuller and more beautiful. Full lips with an accentuated border are usually associated with beauty and youth.

Candidacy:
  • People with thin lips who desire to have a fuller shape.
Decision making in Lip Augmentation:
  • Natural v/s Synthetic Fillers
  • Temporary v/s permanent Fillers
Choice of Filler:
Natural: Fat grafting,ADSC (Adipose Derived Stem Cells)
Synthetic: Restylane, Perlane ,Esthelis, Juvederm, Aquamid
Procedure:
  • Anaesthesia: It is done under Local Anaesthesia. However, for temporary injectable fillers, often, there is no need for a local anesthesia, as the filler is very smooth.
  • Duration of procedure: It takes about 30- 40 minutes for the procedure.
Outpatient/Inpatient procedure:
It is an outpatient procedure i.e. the patient can go home the same day.
 
Duration of results:
 
The results are seen instantly. The result varies with the type of filler used:
 
For Fat Fillers:
Part of the volume injected gets absorbed during the first 2 -3 weeks.What remains there after is permanent.
For Synthetic Fillers:
  • Restylane - lasts 5-6 months,
  • Perlane-6-9 months,
  • Esthelis- 9- 12 months,
  • Juvederm- 4 - 6 months,
  • Aquamid- upto 2 years or more

Lip Reduction

Lip reduction is done to actually decrease lip size in order to achieve the desired results of thinner but still beautiful lips. In most patients, who come for lip reduction, the cause of disproportionate lip size is genetic that have lead the lips to plump up and also show the teeth and gums, even if not widely smiling.

Candidacy:
  • Those whose lip size is disproportionately large.
Procedure:
  • Anesthesia: It is performed under local anesthesia or a sleep sedative.
  • Duration of procedure:It usually takes around 40 minutes for the procedure.
Outpatient/Inpatient procedure:
It is an outpatient procedure i.e. the patient can go home the same day.
 
Recovery:
  • After the surgery do expect swelling of the lips.
  • For a couple of days, you may not be able to talk much as to achieve full healing of the swollen area. The stitches are inside the mouth and are self dissolving.
 
Duration of Results:
Permanent.
